What Camp Looks Like

Follow the Child on the Farm Summer Camp is a child-led, hands-on experience where learning happens through real farm life. Campers spend time with animals, explore nature, and participate in meaningful routines that build confidence and responsibility.

Because this is a working farm, each day varies slightly based on the animals, the season, and the group - but campers can expect a steady rhythm, caring guidance, and lots of outdoor time.

Camp Activities & Learning (Farm Science + Real-World Skills)

  • Animal care, feeding routines, and safe handling basics
  • Observation and discussion of animal behavior and needs
  • Life cycles and seasonal farm changes (eggs, growth, weather, habitats)
  • Nature exploration and outdoor games
  • Creative projects inspired by farm life (art, building, problem-solving)

A Typical Camp Day

While each day varies, most camp days include:
  • Welcome + orientation for the day
  • Animal care and farm routines
  • Outdoor learning and exploration
  • Hands-on activity or creative project time
  • Closing circle and pickup

What to Bring

  • Closed-toe shoes (required)
  • Weather-appropriate layers (Alaska weather changes fast)
  • A water bottle
  • Any additional items noted in your registration confirmation

Location

Located next to the Fairgrounds in Palmer, Alaska - serving families throughout the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, (including Wasilla and surrounding areas).

Registration Information

Advance registration is required for all summer camp programs. Space is limited each week to maintain a calm, safe, and engaging camp environment.

Registration is not considered complete until payment and all required forms have been received. Please be sure to use the same email address for booking and registration so we can match your information and send important camp updates.

Payment Policy. **Please only make your selection when you are ready. Due to the limited space in each camp week we can not offer refunds once you have purchased your week at camp. We ask families to be honest and ethical and understand that once you have chosen to attend camp we are relying on that income to feed our family of both people and critters. If you are unsure about attending camp please make your other scheduling arrangements first before scheduling with us.

We do not typically offer the option to move your child/children from one camp week to another. If we are able to move them there will be an additional $100 charge per child to make this change. Please understand that when we move children we have to contact other parents and try to arrange a swap. This is not always a straight forward process as one parent may not be able to move to your week but they can to a different one but the week they can move to creating space for your kids in their week could also be full. And to make it even more complicated you may be trying to move 2 kids and I can only find one that can switch etc. To give you an example of what that looks like
  • week1: 2 children in this week want to move to week 4
  • week2: 2 children here can move to week 3 but not 4
  • week3: 2 children here can move anywhere
  • week4: 1 child in this week can move to week 2 and 1 can move to week3, but no kids can move to week 1

So I have to call each parent and plan the moves and swap kids from one week to the next until I find that magic opening in the week you are trying to move to. This has resulted in more than 30 hours of work involving calls, planning, and swapping in the past. The $100 fee honestly does't even come close to covering the time involved. I do my very best to accomodate what families need.

COVID : We have modeled our covid response and policy after the matsu School District. In the event that your camp week must close due to a covid related restriction or exposure all safety protocols and notifications will be followed. Your tuition will be applied to the next safe and available camp date that meets your schedule. Or you can apply the tuition to any of our party packages.

** If some one else is supposed to pay for your 2 hour session with us or your full week please check with them before you choose to pay. If we recieve 2 payments for the same camper we will refund the second payee minus the credit card processing fees. For a full week of camp this is roughly $15 and for a 2 hour session this is about $3.
